Notes on the call with Keith Allen Kay/Marketing Guy

Use conscious marketing in a whole new way, especially using social media as the strongest avenue for attracting new clients.

He is on the way to 20K fans on Facebook. All the people I’ve attracted, I haven’t spent a dime, just used strategies to make connections effectively and strategically.

He takes on projects he is interested in, using the Internet as a useful tool. InfusionSoft is the tool he uses, allowing you to do the effective email marketing and managing membership sites.

Joel is using “One” shopping cart to manage the whole site.

Direction/strategy: we get the basics of marketing, but would like a shorter time span to build a fan base/subscriber base.

We are in the pre-launch state. No blog or any web presence.

The art is finding your audience and finding your voice, serving your audience in a very focused way. That way they will be willing to buy our products.

Strongest element, before launching full web site, be blogging, spend a great deal of time in Facebook, starting a dialogue around what we want to share with people.

Without that, it makes the website harder to have momentum.

Part of creating an interactive FB page that draws people into the subject matter we want to teach — then there will be people willing to become subscribers.

What do you help create? Sequences — two factors involved: 1) attracting leads, 2) converting leads. All of this is a real art. No product out there that will just do it for you. Create campaigns around our content so that people enjoy it and share it, doing some of the marketing for us.

For Leza and Jeanine, Keith is creating the membership site and also the marketing campaign, when people show interest, they get involved in a sequence of emails that are effective in helping them sign up. The emails follow a person, “trigger” emails. If someone watches a video, the next email they would get from us would be targeted specifically to help them take a next step, move them along in the process. Program tracks their activity and offers content that helps move them through that decision making process.

Keith is actively involved in creating the content and the sequence of the email marketing campaigns. Also working with Jeanine and Leza on their branding, giving them a fresh look and helping them change their language.

Lucid Living has a small audience but a committed audience. Now they are expanding to the next level(s) with Keith’s help.

What is the cost? How is it determined? What would be involved in helping us create an audience?

Keith tailors each project to each client’s needs. $3K to $15K, depending on how much work he does in the process. Clients are up and running a lot faster than they would have been if they had done the work themselves. Keith doesn’t know what “One” does with membership sites. Joel has been dealing with “One” more than Fay, but Fay knows that “One” can do targeted emails.

Keith has experience we’re looking for. Is ready to give a quote if we are ready for that.

Basic package is $3000 for helping develop Facebook presence, generate leads, get blogging, use WordPress well. We need to be offering tools that people want already to generate leads, 1000 leads would be a great start to help us get to the next level.

Package: 30 day commitment where he is committed, participating with us in actively creating our FB presence on a daily basis. Creating content that could be viral, where others share our content.

    Website for the Conscious Marketing:

Why does Keith use InfusionSoft rather than something like the “One” shopping?

“One” does everything we want for IHS except manage member discounts (unclear about that aspect). If someone refers someone else, how do they get a commission?

If we start using One and get busy, will it hold up? It has a lot of users in the market. At this point we’ve made a commitment, have a merchant account set up, ready to do business. Ready to discuss strategies, how do you handle accounts, would you be ready to do consulting for strategies?

Keith: In a nutshell, we have to build an audience, create that with WordPress site and FB integration where we build a site through blogging. FB is great on this. This is the fastest way to gain traction, gain leads, communicate with them so we can launch the product. Don’t launch the product without an audience, otherwise we don’t get the traction, don’t come in with a “splash”.

We do have a FB page, connected to Fay, got its own address. Trying to be ready before we start building a lot of interest in what we are doing. Want to be sure the site is functional, working properly, then make announcements of products, features, etc.

Joel is interested in how we do this vs buying Gmail lists and sending out a bunch of emails.

Keith: that’s a rough way to go, those buyers have been picked over a lot before so to get even a small # of people would be tough. Not very effective for start up without a team of people to burn though lots of leads.

Joel: like the idea of figuring out to post in FB, compelling content, getting people interested.

Conscious Marketing is all about giving people value, more than they thought they would get.

Keith will offer more specifics in a quote to get us going with an audience.

    • Susan – thanks for documenting this. It’s very useful.

    • I looked over Keith’s websites and Facebook. I like what he’s doing; very positive! It looks like he’s got a lot of things going on and I guess that’s how he get’s people in his email or contacts list along with posting content on Facebook. I think we should ask him to be on our board of advisors as a way to promote his work and trade services with him. We can offer him an equity position in IHS in exchange for his consulting. I’m not opposed to paying him something but I think we can negotiate something that has a larger upside potential for him if he helps us be successful. Has he seen the IHS website? Does he know what we’re doing?

      • Hi dear Joel,

I’m so glad you like what you see as you learn more about Keith. So do I.

I think you have some creative ideas there about how we might work together. It certainly is worth exploring all possibilities, and trust that the highest and best option for us all, to create a win-win all the way around, will emerge.

I haven’t shared the IHS website link with Keith yet; I wouldn’t share it with anyone without yours and/or Fay’s permission, as we aren’t live yet. But if you want to send him the link, I am sure he would find it very helpful in formulating his proposal to us.

I look forward to talking more with you and Fay (hopefully on Sunday) about my friend Iliani, and how you might see her fitting in to IHS as well.

If you and Fay want to take a look at what she’s currently up to — even though she is transitioning out of this business — go to http://www.trimtabmedia.tv and see what you thnk.

    • Thanks Susan I’m thinking we should have another meeting with Keith to show him the website and talk about what we’re doing in more detail. Then he can give us a proposal that Takes everything into account. Can you send me his number?

      • Hello Joel!

        Good idea … here is his #: 480 650 1616

Hope you can connect today. He mentioned yesterday that he didn’t have much scheduled today.

        Love to you,
